Steady Progress for Lattomus and Team Early in the 2026 Season

As the 2026 sprint car season kicks off, Preston Lattomus and the Capitol Custom Trailers and Coaches, EZGO / Golf Cart Services, Betts Garage, Magoo’s Motorsickles No.91 team are reflecting on their early progress and continued development. A key focus for Lattomus has been improving his qualifying performance, a strategy that has already seen positive results.
QUALIFYING SUCCESS
Lattomus has successfully earned top-ten starting positions in his last three races, partially attributing this achievement to consistent speed, particularly at BAPS Motor Speedway.
“Qualifying has definitely been a positive this year, especially at BAPS. To be able to carry that effort to other tracks is still a goal.” Lattomus shared, commenting on the importance of maintaining qualifying performance across various tracks.
CHALLENGES
Despite strong starts, each A-main presented unique challenges.
“The goal is always to go forward in the A-main, and I didn’t get that done the last three starts. The first race at BAPS (Motor Speedway) was me just making mistakes early, and then as I started making good laps, everything just got spread out,” Lattomus explained.
“At Port Royal, I feel I learned every time I hit the track. In the feature, I put myself in a bad spot at the start, and it took a few laps to recover. After those first few laps, I got into a groove, running solid, consistent laps, but then got swallowed up with lap traffic, and it pretty much finished my race.”
“Last weekend at BAPS (Motor Speedway), we showed our speed all day. I lost all my ground in the first few laps. The track prep before the feature made it heavier than we expected. I just had no power and got driven around until about lap 4. It was tough to pass and make up ground all day.“
“I know that is something to aim my sights on, being better and more aggressive on the starts.”
IIMPROVED COMMUNICATIONS
Good communication is key to making good decisions, not just in racing but almost anywhere.
Lattomus and his team felt improved communication among team members would make a notable difference in their performance, so during offseason meetings, it became one of the team’s key goals for 2026.
“Our communications seem to be getting better every night now that it is a known priority among everyone. It has really helped us make the car and me better as the night goes on compared to last year,” Lattomus noted, emphasizing the ongoing focus on collaboration among team members.
EQUIPMENT CONSISTENCY
Lattomus knows he has good equipment. With equipment largely unchanged from last season, he and his team are building on their existing setup.
“We have the equipment to compete for wins. We haven’t made any major changes equipment-wise yet this season. We are working on improving in the areas we know we need to, while continuing to build on the progress we have made with what we have. ” Lattomus added.
UPCOMING PLANS
Lattomus will compete at Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania this weekend, followed by a return to BAPS Motors Speedway the following weekend.

Preston Lattomus is a 19-year-old sprint car driver from Lewes, Delaware. He has rapidly emerged as a promising talent in the racing scene. He began his journey with quarter midgets, securing four USAC National Championships, and transitioned into micro sprints with multiple wins in Pennsylvania. In 2023, Preston made a swift and successful move to the 358 sprint cars, quickly adapting to the challenges and capturing three wins in 2024. In 2025, Lattomus stepped up to winged 410 sprint car racing, and IN 2026, he returns in for his sophomore campaign in the 410 sprint car division at the wheel of the Capitol Custom Trailers and Coaches’ 91.
